Who we are
Honest Whiskers is written and researched by Michael Probert. Michael has owned pets — including cats — for most of his life, and started Honest Whiskers (alongside its sister site for dog owners) because he kept noticing the same thing when shopping for his own animals: most “best of” content online reads like it was written by someone who’s never actually had to solve the problem it’s describing.
Michael is not a veterinarian, and Honest Whiskers doesn’t claim to be run by one. Where a topic touches cat health, food, or safety, we lean on research and reputable sources — the ASPCA and veterinary literature, primarily — and we say clearly when something needs a vet’s judgment, not a website’s.
What we do differently
We don’t buy and test every product we cover — we’re upfront about that on our How We Choose page. What we do instead is go deeper than the average roundup: real manufacturer specs, patterns from genuine owner reviews, safety recall checks, and a habit of leading with the specific situations — multi-cat homes, big cats, small apartments — that generic “best of” lists tend to ignore.
