Tuckers Raw Frozen Dog Food Recall

Raw Basics, LLC has advised its customers on March 6, 2018, that they are recalling its dog food called “Tuckers Raw Frozen Pork-Bison Dog Food” because it may be contaminated with Salmonella.

This recall has been completed, and FDA has terminated this recall.

What Is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a highly infectious bacteria commonly found in most reported cases of food-related illnesses in the United States and globally. Both humans and animals can carry salmonella in their intestines in addition to feces. Salmonella often spreads in contaminated foods.

Common symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in humans include:

  • Abdominal cramping
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting

In severe cases, Salmonella can cause arterial infections, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and endocarditis. Anyone displaying such symptoms should contact their healthcare providers immediately.

Common symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in dogs include:

  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased appetite

If your pet has consumed the above-recalled product and has any of these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Why Is It Being Recalled?

This recall was announced following the company notifying the Nebraska Department of Agriculture of a sample testing positive for Salmonella.

The product affected by the recall is isolated to 1 lot of 540 lbs (in 208 boxes) and was distributed to the following states:

  • Georgia
  • Kansas
  • Minnesota
  • Pennsylvania

Primarily, this product was sold in specialized pet retail stores. No illnesses or cases have been reported to date.

Raw Basics regularly tests batches of products for all known pathogens before shipping and distributing.

What Do I Do Now?

Customers are advised to check for the affected product and, if found, are urged to return the affected product to the original place of purchase.
