The below products were sold and distributed nationwide in the U.S and can be identified with the UPC 7015514363 and UPC 7015514365.

The first product affected by the recall is sold in a 3-pound bag with lot codes:

The second product affected by the recall is sold in a 13.5-pound bag with lot codes:

No other Nature’s Menu products are affected by this recall. No illnesses or cases have been reported to date.

What Is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a highly infectious bacteria commonly found in most reported food-related illnesses in the United States and globally. Both humans and animals can carry salmonella in their intestines in addition to feces. Salmonella often spreads in contaminated foods.

Common symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in humans include:

  • Abdominal cramping
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting

Salmonella can cause arterial infections, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and endocarditis in severe cases. Anyone displaying such symptoms should contact their healthcare providers immediately.

Common symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in dogs include:

  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased appetite

If your pet has consumed the above-recalled product and has any of these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

What Caused The Recall?

The Georgia Department of Agriculture conducted routine testing on specific lots of products that tested positive for Salmonella.

The company conducted further tests of multiple samples of the same lots, which all tested negative, despite the findings of the Georgia Department of Agriculture.

Despite these results, Sunshine Mills, Inc. issued the recall to protect consumers and prevent Salmonella infection. A voluntary recall was issued for the above products to represent their safety and quality control values.

What Do I Do Now?

Retailers have been contacted to discontinue the sale of these products while the investigation and recall continue.

Consumers who have purchased the above-referenced products should discontinue the use of the product and can return the item to the original place of purchase for a full refund.

This recall is being done with the cooperation of the company to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration.
