Raws for Paws Dog Food Recall

Raws for Paws advised its customers on Feb. 9, 2018, that they are recalling its 5-pound and 1-pound chubs of Ground Turkey Pet Food because they are potentially contaminated with Salmonella.

This recall has been completed, and the FDA has terminated this recall.

What Is Salmonella?

Salmonella is a highly infectious bacteria commonly found in most reported cases of food-related illnesses in the United States and globally. Both humans and animals can carry salmonella in their intestines in addition to feces. Salmonella often spreads in contaminated foods.

Common symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in humans include:

  • Abdominal cramping
  • Diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Upset Stomach
  • Vomiting

In severe cases, Salmonella can cause arterial infections, arthritis, muscle pain, eye irritation, and endocarditis. Anyone displaying such symptoms should contact their healthcare providers immediately.

Common symptoms of Salmonella poisoning in dogs include:

  • Bloody diarrhea
  • Fever
  • Abdominal pain
  • Vomiting
  • Decreased appetite

If your pet has consumed the above recalled product and has any of these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian immediately.

Where Was The Product Sold?

The above product recalled (Ground Turkey Pet Food) was sold and distributed in the following states:

  • Minnesota
  • Wisconsin
  • Iowa

What’s Being Recalled?

The above pictures show the product packaged into 1-pound and 5-pound plastic tubes, which are sealed (known as chubs).

These chubs are packaged into Pet Food Combo Pack cases and Turkey Pet Food cases, which contain numerous types of pet food products.

The products being recalled have case codes of 9900008, 9900009, 9900014, and 9900015.

The manufacture date stated for the Turkey Pet Food cases is 10/12/2017. The manufacture date stated for the Combo Pack cases is 10/12/2017 and 2/2/2018.

There has been two reported illnesses connected to this recall.

Why Is It Being Recalled?

Routine testing identified potential contamination by the Minnesota Department of Agriculture (MDA). These tests revealed traces of Salmonella in some packages of Turkey Pet Food.

Whilst the investigation continues and the source of the problem identified, production of these products have been suspended.

What Do I Do Now?

The company, Raws For Paws has advised consumers not to continue to use the above product.

DO NOT CONTINUE TO FEED IT TO YOUR DOG.
